Insects of 2014: Arachnids

Spiders are not insects of course. They belong to the Class Arachnida (Arachnids). But they are small and interesting to encounter and photograph never-the-less.

I often photograph jumping spiders, they have a special sort of personality almost, the way they look right at you. They belong to the family Salticidae.

Gasteracantha cancriformis - Spinybacked Orbweaver. The small fluffs on the web in front of the spider are apparently added purposely by it to act as a sort of visual warning for birds.

Daddy-long-legs is what I have always called them. Others call them harvestmen. They are more closely related to scorpions than spiders.

Surprisingly beautiful, as long as they're not in my shower.
